Today's session with my relatively new psychologist was a little trickier by comparison to our earlier meetings. Upon prior arrangement, we agreed to start to dig through the surface that is the now, and look back at my life's timeline.
The idea behind sifting through and putting together my life jigsaw puzzle of seemingly random events is to scan for and address trauma, and analyse how it has made me the person that I am. Sounds simple enough in theory, but it is so much more difficult in practice. And how much can one actually divulge in less than fifty minutes, only to put the lid back on and continue to tell the tale next fortnight? Every single one of those fifty minutes flew ridiculously fast.
I am certainly not new to therapy, but for some reason or many others, addressing traumatic happenings durings my thirty-something years has not been the key focus point. I do know now that these particular negative events actually do affect my actions and reactions, and will continue to do so unless they are dealt with.
So, let's hope that relinquishing some major demons that splatter the timeline of my existence will in turn make room for some much needed positivity in my near future.
