Another dimension of my being involves film footage, digital technology, and endless hours in front of a computer screen.
Whilst producing DVDs of older, precious memories for people, and preserving footage before it is deemed antique and unusuable does not require much of my creative mind, it does pull into play the analytical half of me.
Focus, patience, organisation, time, energy, motivation: these are just some of the attributes needed to even begin producing such work on any scale. From capturing a single VHS cassette of home video, to a large shopping bag full of 8mm film reels; the producer hat must be worn. Coming up with a clever title and arranging an eye-pleasing chapter menu for the final DVD is about as artistic as the job allows, but I enjoy it.
It must be the 'Aspie' in me that finds such regimented activities to be calming and soothing to the brain. For as long as I am not interrupted by others around me or run into technical difficulties that require immediate attention, I am able to focus on the task for multiple hours at a time and finalise a product that is both satisfying to me and appreciated with open gratitude by the client. Hearing about or seeing others genuinely enjoy, laugh and/or cry, as they relive memories that are sometimes up to 40 years old is motivating in itself for this tech-savvy, creative Apergirl. Now to the editing board: time to get organising.
