With my newfound best friend/ex-fiancé (because we are being mature and definitely not hating on each other) I took the lengthy but warranted trek to the city for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival (MICF) in an effort to not let my pre-purchase go to waste; and wasted it certainly was not!
Em Rusciano is a pure glittery, unembellished, fierce, singing and dancing, high-kicking, comedic genius! Seriously. Who needs professional therapy when you have a fabulous fairy-godmother to speak the truths that so many will not dare to dish out? Through the soundtrack to the emotional odyssey I have been enduring, Em's intimate tale, filled with tear-invoking familiar anguish and ferocious laughter, is epically invigorating and healing to the soul.
This "handsome" lesbian with a "big rack" is thrilled and still grinning from the inside-out at not only getting the chance to finally see her creative and personal idol perform live (and even getting to play along with her adlib antics), but randomly meeting Em pre-show and snapping an extremely elated photo-op. Ms Rusciano is a powerful woman who radiates positive energy and has given this disillusioned "lezzie" a much needed boost of inner strength; I shall rebuild and fly high, determined to kick arse along the way. Just looking at what Em has achieved since her face first illuminated our TV screens a decade ago is enough to inspire us all to strive for our equivalent of numerous sold-out gigs. So thank you, Australian Idol, for casting aside the little gemstone named Em, and bringing this sparkling diamond to our attention.
With Queen Em's advice, I shall dig out my favourite flannelette shirt, wash off the cat fur that is proudly my "single-lady glitter," organise my Costco membership, and throw my independent-woman arms in the air. This homo owes the idol a glass of wine or five.
